simplification

THE LANGUAGE OF LESS

Simplifying involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way.
— Edward De Bono

I once worked with a client and in the middle of her session, sitting indian style on the floor, surrounded by all the piles of stuff that we pulled out of the attic, she stopped in her tracks and looked up at me and said “this is the moment when I would get up and walk out.  I would quit.”

When we explored it further, I realized that she had tried to organize on her own for years.  Pulling out the stuff and making the piles and sitting on the floor making decisions.

But there was the tipping point.  The point of too much.  The point of awakening from her focused state and realizing what she had done.  She had made a huge mess, yet only made a small dent in the progress, and she needed to start dinner in half an hour.

So she would stuff it all back, turn off the light, and once again feel defeated.  Her stuff and it’s ally, life, had beaten her once more.

You have a beautiful home and it deserves better and so do you.  I know you are ready to be free of this stuff, emotionally and physically.  It is time to lighten the load and lift the weight of it all.

Are you unable to think straight because of all the stuff?

Our outer environment is a direct result of our inner thinking, yet it can be difficult to calm down the internal dialogue when there are piles of clutter staring you in the face reminding and mocking of all that has been left undone.

In the program, we will work through internal distractions while simultaneously clearing up your external chaos. As you get rid of the excess, you put in front of you what is important by process of elimination.

Are you overwhelmed by the state of your home?

Not knowing where to start may be holding you back, or is it the sheer volume of the project that is keeping you from getting started?

In many cases it is both. As we clear away the inner and outer obstacles, we will determine the meaning of the mess by reviewing choices made and unconscious habits. Together we clear space one closet, one drawer, and one room at a time.

Just watch as the overwhelm melts away.

Do you feel like you are constantly pouring into others, yet feel guilty about pouring into yourself?

Family is your first priority, but have you thought about this —> you are no good to your family when you are tired, grumpy, worn out, and irritable.

Spending time on you is not selfish and it is a sacrifice to your family. In fact, it is the opposite. It is a gift to them!

Spaciousness and freedom within the home leads to a cozy and welcome environment for all. Are you ready to watch your family thrive as you add “self”care to your priority list?

Your home says a lot about you. I am here to listen.

Learning to let go

The decision seems simple and straightforward but that doesn’t always mean it is easy. We will move through the home asking (& answering) the same question over and over:

“Do I want this? Yes? or No?”

The real work begins here, within the thoughts and the feelings and meaning attached to the stuff that is sucking the life and joy from your home.

Transformation is on the way!

unclogging the drain

Behind every blockage, there is a gush of goodness ready to flow in.

As you strengthen your resolve on what you want and what you are ready to move past, you open the drain for all the happiness that has been sitting there just waiting to flow in.

Freedom is ready to flow in.

creating a flow

Just as the rivers and streams flow continuously, the same should ring true for our homes and our days.

Once you’ve identified what is clogging the system and learned the lessons from letting go of all that doesn’t support Future You, then it becomes easier to create the flow for your home.

The foundation of organization is a place for everything and everything in it’s place. This is exactly what we will focus on last!

It all started when…

My love for color coordinating crayons grew stronger than my love to color.

My name is Jennifer Burnham and I am an organizational mastermind.  We all have God given talents and gifts.  Mine was organization.  I thrive on being organized.  I even color coordinated my crayons as a child.

I’m a small town southern gal who grew up in Dallas, NC.  I graduated with a double bachelors in business administration and accounting and went on to receive a Masters in Business Administration before I realized I love to organize; in 2010 I started my firm to help women clear space in their home so they can take up all the space in their life.

I hold the space (and the trash bags) open while giving you permission to dive deep and get clear on what you want to see and experience in your home and your life.

Your home says a lot about you.  I’m here to listen.

hey, i have some questions…

I’ve tried organizing before and it didn’t work.

We don’t know how to make ourselves do the hard things in life.  Organizing is not about the bins and labels as it is much deeper about our connection with our stuff and what that is trying to tell us.

Anyone who doesn’t commit relapses or completely stalls out. While you can model the process to a certain extent, I want to remind you that you don’t know how to have the tough conversations with yourself about whether you want to keep this or donate that.

It takes time to enact a new way of being.

It takes time to build up our strong muscles.

I’m nervous about investing in myself in this way because I feel that I should be able to do it on my own.

Shame is our own self-judgment. How you feel in your home is intangible. A lot of our work is in that area. For some people it is hard to quantify that feeling. Is it worth $10? Is it worth $1,000? It is worth everything if we get it right!

I’m worried that I will slide backwards?

Will you? This is a commitment that you are making to yourself.  No one is going to throw you a party when you succeed.  And no one is going to arrest you if you don’t.  Identify the reasons you want to simplify and commit yourself to do the daily work.

Have you ever lost weight and put it back on? Some results are tangible and some are intangible, but these elements are important because they flow together. I do both of these so you don’t slip back into clutter again. This is an emotional experience.

Being organized and being disorganized are two ends of a continuum.  Once you have more choice in the matter, you can find a place on the continuum that works for you.

I feel that fully organized is an impossible way of living.

We will challenge these old beliefs as we work from the inside out and the outside in.  A new comfortable will emerge as we sort one box, one drawer, one room at a time.

What if I’m afraid to give up my mess because it is comfortable and familiar?

If you want the results but aren't ready to change your daily actions that are leading to the chaos then we recommend reflecting on what it is you want to experience as a result of getting organized.  Because without a good strong reason to change, you simply will not.

What if I want to get organized but don’t want to spend the time doing it?

These are great reasons to get organized but they won’t sustain you when the going gets tough.

What if I just want to find what I need and feel less stressed in my home?

As you create breathing room for yourself, you will find that your voice and creativity will ooze out of you.  It has been waiting for this exact moment to show up!

I’m afraid that becoming organized will stifle my creativity and self-expression.

what others have said

Here is what my clients are saying:

It is hard to process everything when we are in it together. But walking away and coming home is a surreal feeling. Every time I open my garage I am blown away.
— Kara H.
Jennifer literally lifted a 10 year weight of baggage off my mind and in our house!
She set me on a course of happiness in my home that I haven’t had in a very long time.
— Holly L.
Jennifer knows how to navigate the process of eliminating stuff while tending to the feelings that come up.
Additionally, she packs more action into an hour than anyone I have ever seen.
— Christine A.
This was totally worth it. I realized I was buying organizing products for things I didn’t want to keep. Taking it all out was eye opening. I realized I always wanted to jump ahead to the fun step of buying and labeling. Jennifer helped me see the vision of the space come to life!”
