You cannot organize your way out of the mess

Organizing is a simple four step process.

  1. Sort & purge

  2. Create a flow in your home

  3. Sort & purge again

  4. Create structure to keep the space/drawer/closet organized

Oftentimes, we want to jump ahead to step 4 when we begin our organizing process. We look to what we need to buy to get us organized. Much to our dismay, the answer doesn't lie in the organizing aisle of Target.

By jumping ahead, we end up adding to the problem rather than subtracting from it. We end up storing crap we don't need or want in oversized storage bins conveniently tucked away in the garage.

We close the door and give ourselves a high five for an organized job well done.

Instead of looking at what we can buy to contain the stuff we have, lets flip this notion on its head and just have less stuff.

Novel idea.

The answer lies in less. Letting go doesn't naturally feel good, which is why we try to avoid it by going to the Target to buy the bins.

Stick with the four step process and give yourself time to do this. It doesn't have to be completed overnight; that stuff didn't walk in your home overnight, and it won't walk out either.

If you need help and support with this, then I am here for you.
