How To Decorate For Fall with Secondhand Finds

Simple and secondhand; don’t those two words just go together so beautifully?

This year I felt the urge to really decorate our home for the season (it could be all this time at home); here are simple ideas on how to bring in the season with affordable secondhand finds. Good for the planet & the pocketbook. #winning

Stemware & Platters

One thing that is not in short supply at secondhand stores & estate sales are stemware and serving pieces.

Holiday season is the perfect time to get creative and use up those platters.

I love this fall cookie board idea from Hoosier Homemade; it would be very simple and easy to create.

Jennifer’s Tip: buy platters in white or other neutral colors; you can use them for all holidays rather than just fall or Halloween!

Spooky Not Scary Halloween Decorations

Bottles abound, especially at country estate sales. Buy up a collection in the same color glass and create yourself a spooky but not scary halloween tablescape.

Bowls & Cake Stands

I’m learning that is important to vary the height of decorations, especially on a mantle or a sideboard or a bookshelf. Getting a two for one deal out of bowls and cake stands sounds like a good use of resources to me.

Pair classic patterns like blue & white with muted fall decor (from Miss Mustard Seed).

Painting Faux Pumpkins

We’ve sold our fair share of faux pumpkins that are fairly ugly IMO. I love the idea of painting them to match your decor, because muddy orange might not be it. ;)

So Much Better With Age is showing us how to do this with a simple tutorial (video)
