My Biggest Influence…
In order to thrive and live life outloud, I fully believe that we all need motivation from time to time. (and sometimes coaching to see those spots that we are blind too)
We need motivation to move away from comfort and relaxed. Away from the same ole. Away from societal roles and recommendations.
To move out of the zone of “this is what we know” requires a burst of energy, like a plane taking off. In human experience, that burst of energy comes from motivation.
And motivation comes from influence. Have you ever pondered where (& when) you get your biggest jolts of motivation and energy?
———> Interjecting, gain awareness around this, begin to notice when you get motivated.
Who is there? What is the situation? What did you see or experience?
My biggest influence is traveling.
Every time I travel to a new far off place, my motivation and creative juices are overflowing. The trips don’t necessarily have to be long but they do have to be new and far away. Exploring a place that I have been too over and over doesn’t fill the creative tank like a trip to a brand new city or country.
In 2019, I embarked on 3 large trips that solidified my love for travel and my inkling that exploring new places fills me to overflowing.
Our travel itinerary up to 2019 had become stale with the same ole trips to the mountains and few trips to Pinehurst. Fun when they were new, but they lost their muchness quickly.
While 2020 has been unique in that travel isn’t what it was; I hold on to my vision of returning to flying and traveling sans mask and experiencing that energy jolt once again!
Other sources of influence and motivation are:
people going after their dreams
Watching another human give up their excuses in exchange for action and passion is so MOTIVATING! Doing it scared, doing it without all the answers, just plain doing it anyway - it’s such a mirror reflection and a great reminder to embrace action over excuses daily!
flowing in a hot yoga class
I used to keep a notebook beside my yoga mat when I would practice as ideas just seem to bubble up out of nowhere. Maybe it was all that moving and stretching that unearthed something deeply seeded and implanted.
walking through the trees on a hike
Just being outside doesn’t light me up the way that hiking intentionally through the trees can.
Whenever I am feeling sluggish or down on myself or just plain bored, I turn to my motivational go-tos:
Travel
Binge on others running towards their dreams and away from their excuses
Flow with yoga
Hike through the trees
