How (& Why) to Rotate Your Closet
Why should you rotate your closet
Built in purging
Creates space in your closet
Allows your creative juices to get flowing once you’ve removed the visual clutter
Rotating your clothes instantly puts you in the mindset of “Do I still like this? Y or N?”. Allow the work of pulling out seasonal pieces jump start the purging process.
When you are thinking about what to put away and what to keep out, remember that anything you aren’t wearing when it’s cold should go up. if you travel, then make sure you can reach your rotational pieces easy in the event you need to pack it for a trip.
Many times I’ve heard someone say, “Jennifer that is simply too much work” when I’ve recommended that they rotate their closet between summer and fall / winter and spring.

Once you get the pattern down, rotating should take you about an hour max.
The secret benefit to rotating is you can try out new styles and pieces together. Something you may not have put together when everything was all stuffed together in your closet. Take your time and get playful!
What To Rotate Out
If you are going into the fall/winter months, then rotate these clothes OUT:
Shorts
Skirts (except wool or longer skirts that you will wear with boots)
Summer rompers and jumpsuits
Summer dresses
Tank tops (unless you wear it under a sweater or cardigan)
Short sleeve t-shirts
Seasonal & summer patterns, prints, colors
Sandals and flip flops and open toe shoes
Coverups
Summer hats
Summer workout gear (shorts and capris)
Summer pajamas
First, take out everything that you want to put away for the season. Donate as you go.
Then hang up (or fold) anything that you want to bring out for the current season like sweaters and wool pants. Donate as you go.
Move the seasonal clothes to your storage containers and put away.
Lastly, make a list of what you need and want to complete your fall and winter wardrobe. This helps give focus to online shopping and deal days.
Organizers Storage Bins
I love these storage bins; keep in mind that once you buy them, they should last for 10+ years. I’ve yet to replace a bin and I’ve yet to add more to the mix. :)
