At Home: Organizing A Garage
Home offices and garages are two spaces within the home that become a catch all.
While I love setting up a home office for max efficiency, my favorite space to work is the garage.
Why, you might ask.
Because any progress is a massive step forward in the right direction.
Garages also don’t have near as many restrictions to take into consideration like the size of a closet or the amount of wall space available.
BEFORE
This one car garage needed to store home improvement items and tools more efficiently. The plan was to utilize the wall space at the far end of the garage along with the cubby areas to keep his items neat, tidy, but within easy reach.
We added solid wood shelves customized for the space using metal brackets attached to studs.
Solid wood shelving performs much better in damp spaces as particle board can swell when wet.
AFTER
I always recommend going up in the garage, meaning you should use the wall space available. We discussed upgrading the storage containers to match, but settled on living with it for some time and deciding what was needed and what wasn’t.
We pulled several categories out of the townhome and made it much easier to assess when needed by storing it within reach in the storage/garage area.
What do you think? Is this something you could do at home?
